Samsung has designed many of its own laptop boards and identifies them with its own part numbers rather than an ODM code. Two prefixes matter most — BA41 and BA92 — alongside a project name printed on many boards and the familiar NP model numbers on the bottom label. Knowing how these fit together is the quickest way to the right schematic and boardview for a Samsung laptop, from older Series 3 and Series 9 machines to newer Galaxy Book models.

BA41 and BA92

Samsung's parts numbering uses prefixes for categories of parts. For laptop boards:

  • BA41- numbers commonly appear on the PCB itself and identify the board design — the number schematics and boardviews are most often filed under.
  • BA92- numbers are commonly used for the assembled main board as a service part — useful for ordering a replacement, less often for finding documents.

Both usually end in a letter, which may indicate a variant or revision. The catalog groups BA41 numbers in the Samsung BA41 boards family and Samsung boards under Samsung.

Project names

Many Samsung boards carry a project name in the silkscreen — a short code word, often followed by a variant such as a screen size or a letter. Boards for several models within a series may share the project name and differ only in the variant. Schematics are often titled with the project name rather than the model number, so it is worth noting alongside the BA41 number.

NP model numbers

Samsung model numbers usually begin with NP, followed by a series number, a generation letter, a size digit and a variant — for example NP300E5A. The suffix after the dash identifies the regional configuration. The model number narrows the search, but one model number can cover boards with different processors or graphics; the BA41 number on the board decides.

Revisions

Samsung prints revisions on the board. As with other brands, a schematic for a different revision may differ in the power section, connectors or optional parts. Compare distinctive parts between the boardview and the board before relying on measurements; how to do that is covered in How to Match a Boardview to Your Board Revision.

Finding the numbers on the board

  • Look near the edges of the board and around the memory and the processor.
  • Check stickers on the board, sometimes partly hidden under shields or tape.
  • Photograph both sides in good light; small print is easier to read in a photo.
  • Read the service label if the laptop has been repaired before; replacement boards often carry their own BA92 sticker.

General board-identification methods are in How to Identify Your Laptop Motherboard Model, and code formats across brands in Laptop Board Codes Explained: LA-, NM-, DA0, 6050A and 448 Numbers.

Common fault areas

Samsung laptops share the faults of other consumer laptops, with some recurring themes:

  • Charging sections — DC jacks soldered to the board on many older models, and their input circuits after faulty adapters.
  • Shorted rails after liquid or physical damage.
  • Display cables worn at the hinge.
  • Firmware after interrupted updates; Samsung distributes updates per model through its own update software.

Newer Galaxy Book models use USB-C charging and thinner, denser boards with soldered memory; their faults resemble other thin laptops — USB-C power path, always-on rails and liquid damage.

Older Series models

Older Samsung laptops sold as Series 3, 5, 7 and 9 cover a long stretch of time and many board designs. Within a series, the size digit and generation letter in the model number often correspond to different boards, and regional variants may use different processors. Many of these boards have DC jacks soldered directly to the board, so a damaged jack can mean desoldering work on a heavy ground connection — preheating helps a great deal. Their BIOS and EC firmware were updated through Samsung's own update software, and interrupted updates are a recurring cause of dead boards.

Reading Samsung schematics

Samsung schematics follow their own conventions in page layout and net naming, which differ from the ODM conventions you may know from Compal or Quanta boards. Take a few minutes on the first pages: the block diagram, the power map and the power sequence page. Once you know how the document names the always-on rails, the sleep-state signals and the main power-good chain, the rest of it reads quickly. Keep a short list of those names per project name; boards within the same project family usually reuse them.

Adapters

Many older Samsung adapters use a barrel connector with a centre pin. As with other brands, a broken or damaged pin can stop the laptop from recognising the adapter. Test with a known-good adapter of the correct type before diagnosing the board's charging circuit.

Firmware and board identity

Samsung boards keep their serial number, model information and, on some models, licensing data in the firmware flash. A replacement board or a generic image can leave those fields blank or wrong, which shows up as a missing serial number in the BIOS screen and problems with the manufacturer's software. When recovering a chip with a programmer, back up the original and carry its identity data into the new image.

Ordering a replacement board

Order by the BA92 number if you have it, and confirm that the BA41 design and configuration match the original. A board with the right design but a different processor or graphics variant may not fit the laptop's cooling or may lack connectors the laptop needs.

Example: one series, several boards

Two laptops of the same Samsung series and size arrive with similar symptoms. Their bottom labels differ only in the suffix after the dash. Inside, one board carries a BA41 number ending in one letter, the other a different number entirely, with a different project name variant — one has a dedicated GPU, the other does not. The schematic for the first board includes a graphics power section that simply does not exist on the second. Reading the board numbers first avoided measuring for parts that were never fitted.

FAQ

What is the difference between BA41 and BA92?

BA41 numbers commonly identify the board design printed on the PCB; BA92 numbers commonly identify the assembled board as a service part.

Where is the BA41 number?

On the board — in the silkscreen or on a sticker, often near an edge.

Is the NP model number enough to find a schematic?

It helps, but the BA41 number on the board is more reliable, because one model can use several boards.

What is the project name for?

It groups related boards and often appears in schematic titles.

Do newer Galaxy Book laptops use the same numbers?

Samsung's part numbering continues, but check the board itself, as designs and suppliers vary.

Bottom line

Identify a Samsung board by its BA41 number and project name on the PCB, use the BA92 number to order parts, and treat the NP model number as a starting point rather than the answer. Match revisions, check the adapter and DC jack first on charging complaints, and expect USB-C and soldered memory on newer models.
