Board code families

Most laptops are designed and built by a handful of ODMs — Compal, Quanta, Wistron, Inventec, LCFC — and each numbers its boards in its own way. Schematics and boardviews are filed under these codes, not under the laptop model, so recognising the format is the first step to finding the right file.

Compal LA- boards

Compal LA-xxxxP · 1,107 boards

Compal Electronics numbers its laptop mainboards LA- followed by four characters and a P — LA-6753P, LA-D312P, LA-L246P. The number is printed in the PCB silkscreen; its position varies from board to board.

Compal designs boards for Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba and others, so the same LA- code can appear in laptops of different brands. File names usually add a platform name (such as AAU30 or Q5WV1) and a revision like Rev 1.0; Dell boards also carry a build stage such as A00.

Quanta DA0 boards

Quanta DAxxxMBxxx · 1,093 boards

Quanta Computer part numbers look like DA0R63MB6F1: DA (or DA0), the platform code (R63), MB for mainboard, and a short suffix in which a letter usually marks the PCB revision — F in this example. Quanta platform names (R63, ZN1, LX6) appear on their own in many file names.

Quanta builds boards for HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony and Apple. Boards that differ only in the revision letter share one page here, with the revision of each file listed next to it.

MSI MS- boards

MSI MS-xxxx · 729 boards

MSI board codes are MS- plus four or five characters: MS-7xxx for desktop motherboards, MS-1xxx for laptop boards and MS-Vxxx for graphics cards. The revision (for example REV 1.0) is printed on the PCB next to or below the code.

Wistron boards

Wistron 1xxxx-x / 448.xxxxx · 624 boards

Wistron boards are identified by a five-digit project number with a revision suffix — 13269-1, 17841-1 — and by PCB part numbers that start with 448. or 48.4. File names often add a project codename too.

Wistron designs boards for Dell, Lenovo, Acer and HP. When a file name has both the project number and a 448. part number, they refer to the same board.

Gigabyte GA- boards

Gigabyte GA-xxx · 555 boards

Gigabyte desktop boards use GA- model names such as GA-H61M-DS2 or GA-Z97-D3H; newer boards drop the prefix (B450 AORUS PRO). The revision — rev 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 — is printed on the PCB and often changes the BIOS chip or the layout.

Inventec 6050A boards

Inventec 6050Axxxxxxx · 455 boards

Inventec board numbers are 6050A followed by seven digits — 6050A2412601 — often with a suffix like -MB-A02 that marks the board revision. Inventec also gives each project a codename (for example Berlin, Granger or Sydney) that appears in file names.

Inventec boards are common in HP, Toshiba and some Acer and Lenovo laptops. Search the seven digits after 6050A if a file name has the code in an unusual form.

LCFC NM- boards

LCFC NM-xxxx · 325 boards

LCFC, Lenovo's manufacturing company that began as a joint venture with Compal, numbers boards NM- plus a letter and three or four digits — NM-A841, NM-B901, NM-C711. Most recent IdeaPad, Legion, Yoga and many ThinkPad boards use this scheme.

File names usually carry a platform name in front of the code (CG521, DY720, ET481), and one NM- board often covers several model numbers, such as the 14-inch and 15-inch versions of the same series.

ASRock 70-MX part numbers

ASRock 70-MXxxxx · 245 boards

ASRock part numbers look like 70-MXB400-A01; the board itself is named by chipset and model (H270 Performance, B450M Steel Legend). Files are grouped here by the part number when the file name includes it.

Samsung BA41 boards

Samsung BA41-xxxxxA · 195 boards

Samsung laptop mainboards carry BA41- (and on some parts BA92-) part numbers. Schematics are usually titled with a project codename such as Petronas, Lampard or Scala, which also appears in file names.

Asus 60N part numbers

Asus 60NBxxxx-MBxxxx · 173 boards

Asus board part numbers look like 60NB0IQ0-MB1100. The first part (60NB0IQ0) identifies the board design; the tail after MB marks a configuration such as CPU, memory or graphics. Boards with the same first part share a layout, so their boardviews and schematics are interchangeable as long as the main board revision matches.

Apple 820- logic boards

Apple 820-xxxxx · 143 boards

Apple logic boards are numbered 820-xxxx on older models and 820-xxxxx on newer ones, sometimes followed by a revision letter (820-2915-B). The number is printed on the board itself.

The A number on the bottom case (A1278, A1466, A2179) identifies the model, not the board. One A number can use several 820 boards across production years, so always search by the 820 number.

Sony VAIO MBX boards

Sony MBX-xxx · 82 boards

Sony VAIO boards carry an MBX- number. The actual design came from an ODM — Quanta, Foxconn, Wistron or Inventec — and the ODM code is often printed on the same board. This catalog joins both names when a file mentions them together.
